  Bethany Breaches Calvinism vs. Arminianism

The other day as we were getting ready for church, Bethany came up to me and said, "God wants us to do good. He made us to do good."

I responed to her with an enthusiastic, "Yes dear, that's absolutely right!"

Her next statement caught me off guard. She then said, "God made bad people to be bad."

Her little three year old mind was trying to understand why there are those who choose God and those who reject Him. My response to her was, "God wants everyone to be good, but some people choose to never obey God."

As I thought about this dialogue, I began to think about the big Calvinism vs. Arminianism debate (by the way, if you want to read a good article on striking the balance in this debate, then click here). It made me chuckle as I considered the numerous scholars through the ages who have tried so desperately to understand exactly how it works, and my three year old daughter with a little pondering had already come to a conclusion.

Even though her conclusion wasn't accurate, it blesses me as a father to know that my children consider God and His Word. It amazes me that at such young ages children can grasp spiritual things. I believe this is why Jesus told His disciples to let the little children come, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven (Matthew 19:14).
