  Not By Bread Alone

It was one of those busy days for a home-schooling mom of four. The sink was loaded to the brim with dishes that needed to be washed. As Dianna began to tackle the task of washing the dishes she began to joke with our oldest daughter Karissa (5 years).

“That's it you kids dirty too many dishes,” joked Dianna.

“What do you mean?” questioned Karissa.

Dianna continued, “I need to find something to feed you kids that doesn’t dirty any dishes. How about bread? You can hold it and it doesn’t dirty a dish. I think I’ll have you kids just eat bread from now on.”

Karissa after hearing this replied with a classic rebuke. “Mom, don't you know the Bible says man shall not live by bread alone.”

Dianna then took the opportunity to explain that verse, what it means in it's context. These are the opportunities we need to remember to seize as they present themselves. This is why Deuteronomy 6:6-7, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.”

At five years of age she’s witty and biblical. Praise the Lord. I have no greater joy than to see that my children walk in truth (3 John 4).
